Exhibition Shows Finnish Architect Alvar Aalto

English

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) created architecture on a human scale that was in harmony with the natural environment, incorporating many natural materials into his buildings.

One has the impression that the forest outside of an Aalto home is the continuation of the interior of the structure, Katarina Pakoma, curator of the Alvar Aalto Museum in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland, said guiding a tour at the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition, entitled Eternal Shapes, focuses on four homes that Aalto built on commission.

Within the framework of the exhibition, the Kölcsey Centre will host a symposium of Hungarian and Finnish designers on September 21. Participants will discuss wood as a building material.

Jyväskylä, a city famous for its many buildings designed by Aalto, is the sister city of Debrecen.
