Félix Lajkó To Play Concert of Joy

English

This year?s concert, the fourth since the tradition was started, will take start at 21:00 at Kossuth Square, in front of Parliament. The hour-and-a-half-long concert will be broadcast live on state television broadcasters Magyar Televízió and Duna Televízió.

The progamme will be an all-Lajkó one, but it will feature guests who have played a part in the young musician?s past, including some of the most important jazz musicians in the region: Mihály Dresch, and Boban and Marko Markovic. Also performing will be Magdi Rúzsa, the winner of this year?s Megasztár talent search contest.

Lajkó was born in Bačka Topola, in Serbia?s Vojvodina region, in 1974. He first learned to play a zither, but started the violin at age twelve. In the early 90s he came to Hungary where he became a member of the Dresch Quartet. By 1994 Lajkó had his own band. Lajkó?s music is difficult to define. It is extraordinary improvisation influenced by Hungarian and Balkan folk music, as well as jazz, classical and romantic music. Lajkó has captivated audiences with it in Tokyo, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Frankfurt and Venice.
