Festival Organisers Promise Another Hot Summer in Szeged

English

A renewed production of the musical Elisabeth will return to the festival, with the cooperation of the Budapest Operetta Theatre, after an absence of eleven years. The piece is directed by Miklós Gábor Kerényi and features Kata Janza in the title role and Szilveszter P. Szabó as Death.

Szeged Open-Air Festival director Gergely Kesselyák will conduct for his own production of Turnadot, with Szilvia Rálik and Andrea Rost in the leads. Kesselyák says he hopes audiences will be impressed not only by the "Hollywood spectacle" but by the "production's delicacy" too.

Also returning to the festival will be a production of the Hungarian rock opera Stephen the King by the Company.

Attila Béres will bring a new production of Franz Lehar's Gypsy Love to the festival. The piece "deals with the secrets of the female soul, the freedom of love and the demonic power of sexuality and uses both the lure tones of the Art Nouveau and the theories of Freudian psychoanalysis," according to the festival organisers. Gypsy Love will feature Tünde Frankó, Atilla B. Kiss, Gyula Bodrogi, Rita Rácz, Piroska Molnár, Patrícia Kovács, András Stohl, Zsolt Vadász, Károly Gesztesi and Frigyes Hollósi in the main roles.

The Maurice Béjart Ballet of Lausanne, well known for its cutting-edge pieces, will come to the festival with Love Dance.
