Film Screenings Mark Anniversary of Japanese Catastrophe

On the programme are three documentaries and two feature films.
 
The feature Haru?s Journey, is about an old man?s travels with his granddaughter that reflects director Masahiro Kobayashi?s relationship with his own father.
 
The other feature, Quartet!, directed by Junichi Mimura, is about a family who rediscover their ties in a musical ensemble. The film was being shot with the participation of more than 700 residents of Urayasu when the earthquake and tsunami hit. In spite of the disaster, the locals and the director decided to continue making the film.
 
The documentary Fukushima Hula Girls, directed by Masaki Kobayashi, shows the reconstruction of a Hawaii-themed resort in Iwaki City after it was devastated by the tsunami.
 
Can You See Our Lights shows the determination of Japanese hit by the disaster to continue celebrating festivals that have centuries-long traditions.
 
Setting Sail from the Ruins documents the return of fishermen to the town of Ofunato just three months after the disaster.
 
Admission to the films is free of charge.
