Events organised by the Hungarian Cultural and Scientific Centre Helsinki together with the capital's music schools will take place at venues in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, the centre's director Éva Pap told the Hungarian News Agency.
Among the highlights of the week will be performances by two young Annie Fischer Scholarship winners, the pianist Gábor Farkas and the singer András Kertész.
Kodály Week was started in 1990 by Csaba Szilvay, a Hungarian music teacher living in Helsinki. The tradition now features concerts every day of the week featuring students from different schools at different venues, all showing the results of the famous Kodály method of music education.
At the opening concert of this year's Kodály Week, Hungary's ambassador to Hungary András Hajdú will present Géza Szilvay, the brother of Csaba, and a retired teacher at the Sibelius Academy, with the Zoltán Kodály Memorial Prize. The two brothers are responsible for introducing the Kodály Method to Finland.
The final concert of the week will be held at the Sibelius Academy.
