Florence Celebrates Hungarian Writer Hubay

The Kossuth Prize-winning Hubay, who wrote the first Hungarian musical, Three Nights of a Love Affair, taught at the University of Florence between 1974 and 1988.

 
The Italian literary magazine Semicerchio and the Il Fiore Foundation will host the conference, where Milly Curcio, a former student of Hubay and an expert on the author's works, as well as Luigi Tassoni, of the University of Pécs, will speak. Curcio and Tassoni will travel to Budapest to give their talk at the Italian Culture Institute on December 16.
 
After the conference, Hubay will be presented with a lifetime achievement award by Scritture di Frontiera in Trieste.
 
The French city of Dijon will celebrate Hubay with a production of his play The School of Geniuses in January.
 
In Hungary, Hubay's play The Knife Throwers is being performed by the József Attila Theatre in Budapest, the Zalaegerszeg Theatre will put on a Hubay evening entitled Something Ticking Here, and the Csokonai Theatre of Debrecen will present Three Nights of a Love Affair, all in December.
