The concert, organised by the Pompidou Centre and the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM), was entitled The Pursuit.

IRCAM director Frank Madlener said the programme aimed to examine the continuation of Bartók's musical universe in Ligeti's works. It included a performance of the first two movements of Bartók's Sonata for Solo Violin, followed by Ligeti's Sonata for Solo Viola, The Ligeti piece contains a playful hora lunga, a song form from Transylvania, which forms an expressive relationship with the melody in the Bartók sonata.

The Korean violinist Hae-Sun Kang played the Bartók piece, which was accompanied by a projection of Peter Greenaway's film of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's dance Rosa. The Ligeti piece was performed by Garth Knox.
Double Bind? was the last piece on the programme. It demonstrated the playful relationship between the composer and the instrument that Chin learned when studying with Ligeti in Hamburg.

Chin is currently at work on a composition that Ligeti always wanted to write: an opera based on Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland.
