Among the other highlights on the programme are Mezzoforte and Matt Bianco on July 19, the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club with Omara Portuondo on July 20, and Donizetti?s Don Pasquale with Ruggero Raimondi and Erika Miklósa singing the leads on July 21.
Veszprém Mayor Gyula Porga said the festival had become closely attached to the city?s image over the years.
Festival director Zoltán Mészáros said an attempt was made to bring new things to each year?s festival. This year, instead of only opera arias and duets, festival-goers can see a partially-staged version of Don Pasquale directed by Csaba Káel.
Káel, who is the director of Budapest?s Palace of Arts (MUPA), said the opera was not just for opera fans, but for everybody, because it deals with everyday problems.
