Six countries - Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Western Germany and Italy - signed the Treaty of Rome on March 25, 1957 to establish the European Economic Community, the forerunner of the European Union. Fifty years later, the EU is celebrating peace and stability, freedom and democracy, prosperity, and jobs and growth.
The Budapest Information Office of the European Union picked Budapest's Gödör Club as a venue to celebrate the event.
The programme starts at 21:00 with a concert by Jazzékiel, a band that blends jazz and rap. Hiperkarma, one of Hungary's leading alternative rock bands, will follow, presenting material from their third album to be released soon. Titusz and the Carbonfools, who combine electronic beats with live instruments, will close the evening. DJ Onoff will scratch at the post-concert party that will continue until the early hours of the
morning.
