The government voted on the contribution last year.
Ipkovich noted that the size of the contribution had much to do with the local government's plan for the project, which gained broad support and was treated as a real matter for the city, rather than a political affair. He added that construction of the theatre would start soon and could be completed as early as 2010.
Ipkovich said the money would be used exclusively for the construction of and preparations for the construction of the theatre.
The theatre will be named after Sándor Weöres, one of Hungary's greatest writers. It will be headed by Tamás Jordán, who is currently director of the Hungarian National Theatre.
The Sándor Weöres Theatre was established at a meeting of the local council in September. It currently operates out of the local public arts centre, which the city plans to renovate at a cost of HUF 500 million.
