Hadyn in Esterháza Organisers Impress

English

Anybody in the audience on Friday evening who expected an ensemble called the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment led by a knighted conductor to put on a serious performance were in for a surprise. Sir Roger clowned around and interacted with the audience, but delivered a fantastic gift of a concert that was deeply felt, colourful, rich and playful all at the same time.

The concert opened with the Symphony in F major "La passsione", and was followed by the Trumpet Concerto in E flat major, with Blackadder performing on a replica of a period instrument to give the music another dimension. The concert wound up with the overture to Il Ritorno di Tobia and the Symphony in C major "Maria Theresia".
