Harvest, Bread Focus of Hungaricum Village

English

?This week is about Hungarian wheat, the great breads of the Great Plain, Rábaköz pretzels, pork rind pastries and the traditions connected to the harvest,? the Rural Development Ministry said in a statement.

The government plans to draw up a legal framework for Hungaricums ? products that have earned a place in Hungarian culture ? that will serve the preservation of national values, said Rural Development Ministry State Secretary, Zsolt V. Németh during a visit to the Hungaricum Village. After the country?s Hungaricums are catalogued, a national marketing campaign will be necessary, because Hungaricums can only be sustained if they are handled not as objects in a museum but as living traditions that Hungarians demand, use and consume, he added.

The Regal Order of Hungarian Bakers is operating a bakery on the island for the full length of the Sziget Festival. In addition to showing off, and selling, their craft, they are sharing recipes.

Island-goers can taste rich single-course meals and goulash at Katlan Tóni?s Kitchen, and they can sample beef from Hungarian Grey Cattle and Mangalitsa pork at the Mangal Ica Kitchen.

The folk singer and tale-teller Gyöngyi Écsi is sharing harvest songs and stories, and folk artists are showing festival-goers how to weave with the reaping.

The Hungaricum Village is made possible with the support of the Rural Development Ministry and the New Hungary Rural Development Programme.
