Hiller met Avdeyev for the first time at the 5th World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Khanty-Mansi, Western Siberia.

Hiller said Avdeyev also showed much interest in a special film subsidy scheme in Hungary at the meeting. The two culture ministers agreed to meet regularly, twice a year, with the next meeting slated for November, in Budapest.

Hiller said he wanted to revive the ties between Hungarian and Russian universities at the Ph.D. level at an inter-government meeting in the last part of the year. He also wants to establish a cultural and educational committee similar to the Hungarian-Russian inter-government committee on economics. The issue will be addressed at a joint cabinet meeting of the two countries' governments in the autumn.

Hiller also met with the rector of the University of Khanty-Mansi, who signed an agreement on student exchanges and cooperation in the area of research with the head of Budapest's Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE).
