Chinese Culture Minister Sun Jiazheng opened the gala. He said culture is the best vehicle for communication and understanding among the peoples of the world today.
Honvéd performed at the gala alongside troupes from Siberia, Japan, South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand, Lebanon, the Cook Islands, Cuba, Kazakhstan and China.
The Honvéd Dance Theatre tour was part of the Hungarian Culture Season in China, which kicked off at the beginning of September.
The Honvéd Dance Theatre performed at ten venues on the tour, said choreographer and dance troupe leader Zoltán Zsuráfszky.
Zsuráfszky toured China earlier as a dancer, a member of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, and these experiences influenced the programme he picked for the Honvéd Dance Theatre?s tour.
At the final performance of the tour, the troupe prepared a very special selection of Kalotaszeg dances, complete with richly embroidered costumes.
Zsuráfszky said dance troupe had been invited to take part in the 7th International Folklore Festival.
