The concerts, with a ten-band line-up each Sunday, drew 2,500 people. Eight Hungarian bands have been picked from the 40 performers ? many chosen at Hungary?s Sziget, Volt and Wan2 music festivals ? to play for the four-round finals in Vienna. The chosen bands were awarded a combined HUF 3.5 million in prize money.
The Austrian Band Contest has provided a showcase for new talent for more than twenty years. The Hungarian qualifying round has become increasingly diverse and now includes performances by rock, metal, folk, fusion, pop and ska bands.
Last year?s finalists for the ABC Talent Search were Esclin Syndo, Everflash, Honey Bee, Moog, Nuke, Pozvakowski, Solution, The Dethroners, The Trousers and Watch My Dying. Everflash and the Dethroners also performed for this year?s ABC Talent Search.
The finals will be held at the Prater in Vienna on May 1. The winner of the contest will receive a cash prize equivalent to HUF 5 million.
The Hungarian finalists in the Becherovka ABC Talent Search are: Angeldust, Casketgarden, Folk Error, Fugato Orchestra, Locust On The Saddle , Manikin Faint, Sammy Sosa Band, Yellow Spots. Most of the bands are from outside of the Budapest.
