Szemerédy competed against 40 finalists in Quebec between September 19 and 24.
Szemerédy earned a degree in international relations at Budapest's Corvinus University, but was admitted to the Hungarian State Opera House Studio in the spring of 2005. In the same year, he joined Madrid's Escuela Superior de Canto. Szemerédy won this year's Acisclo Fernández Carriedo singing competition in Spain in March.
Operalia, established in 1993, aims to discover the best voices and stage talents and help launch their careers. Next year's Operalia will take place in Hungary, in the capital as well as in Pécs.
