Fried performed the operas with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Pierre Boulez at London's Barbican Hall.
Writing for www.musicOMH.com, Keith McDonnell said Fried in the role of Bluebeard "conveyed a sense of world-weariness through vocal means alone by deploying his implacably ink-black voice to chilling effect throughout."
The review also praised Fried's co-lead, Michelle de Young, who used "her luscious mezzo-soprano voice with the utmost musicianship, and in the process provided a wealth of local colour as she traced her journey from ingénue to resigned-bride."
