The campus was awarded the prize based on aesthetic and functional criteria.
Construction of the campus, which includes a central building, an agriculture and technical sciences hall, a student centre and dormitories, was started in 2000. In addition to the new buildings, old ones were refurbished and a network of pedestrian and bicycle paths built. The campus accommodates 10,000 students and 1,000 staff.
The project cost about USD 60 million, which the college paid for with funding from the Hungarian state, the World Bank and private partners.
The new award entitles the college to display "World's Best Public Sector Building" on campus buildings and official forms, rector Zoltán Janosi said.
Earlier winners of the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence in Hungary include Budapest's Palace of Arts and a renovated palace in Gödöllő.
