Mezo-Arruda, 28, currently pursues postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He has performed as a soloist in Europe, Japan and America.
Mezo-Arruda played Edouard Lalo's Cello Concerto for his winning performance, and along with the first prize, he received 5,000 dollars and an appearance with the orchestra at the annual Houston Chronicle Dollar Concert on July 6, the paper reported.
Mezo-Arruda is the son of the renowned Hungarian cellist Laszlo Mezo.
