Katalin Varga was filmed in Transylvania and stars Hilda Péter, Norbert Tankó, Tibor Pálfy and Marina Sebastian. It will compete against 26 films from Germany, the US, France, China, Peru and Uruguay, most of them premieres, for the Golden Bear.
In addition to the films in competition, almost 400 films are on the programme.
Among the stars who will come to Berlin this year are Tilda Swinton, who will chair the jury; Stephen Frears, who directed the UK film The Queen; Francois Ozon from France; and the Polish director Andrzej Wajda. Other guests include Kate Winslet, Judi Dench, Steve Martin, Demi Moore, Naomi Watts and Michel Piccoli.
