State Decretary at Hungary's Ministry of Education and Culture Ferenc Csák and his counterpart in Croatia Nina Obuljen met for talks on Croatia's participation in Pécs's 2010 programme.

A big part of Pécs's application for the European Capital of Culture title was its role as a gateway to Croatia and other countries in the region.

Obuljen said that ethnic Croatians who live in Pécs make a big contribution to the city's cultural life, and they will work hard to make the 2010 European Capital of Culture programme successful. Already plans are being made to renovate and expand the Pécs Croatian Theatre, she added.

The Croatian government will help establish connections between cities in Croatia and the ethnic Croatians who live in Pécs, Obuljen said.
