Hungarian Cultural Institute Opens in Ukraine

Berehove major István Gajdos, who also heads Ukraine's Hungarian Democratic Federation, said the Hungarian Cultural Institute of Subcarpathia will strengthen the institutional system of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine. It will also fit in well with other institutions for ethnic Hungarians, he added.

   
The new institute will function as a centre for Hungarian culture, art and economy in Subcarpathia, Gajdos said. He expressed thanks for financial support for the institute from Hungary's Homeland Fund and the Prime Minister's Office
 
Hungarian Cultural Institute of Subcarpathia director György Dupka inaugurated the new centre by opening a photo exhibition by ethnic Hungarians from Transylvania, Vojvodina and Slovenia, as well as a hosting a Carpathian Basin book launch and a film premiere.
 
The newly refurbished cultural institute has more than 500 square metres of area on four floors. The spaces in the building include exhibition rooms, a library, a conference room and offices for several Hungarian civil and professional organisations.
