"In an extraordinary gesture for Hungary's film industry, a top-category Hollywood company, Plan B, looked us up and inquired about the remake rights to S.O.S. szerelem!," the film's producer Ádám Neményi said. Plan B is behind such box-office successes as Troy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and, most recently, The Departed, which is a remake of a film made in Hong Kong. The company works with such big names as Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and, naturally, Brad Pitt, Neményi said.
S.O.S. szerelem came to the attention of Plan B because of an article in the professional journal Screen International.
Neményi noted that Plan B was not the only company interested in the film. An Australian producer has made a serious offer for the remake rights as well.
If Brad Pitt likes S.O.S. szerelem!, it could become the first remake of a Hungarian film Hollywood has made in decades.
S.O.S. szerelem!, which stars Sándor Csányi, Iván Fenyő and Mónika Ullmann has been seen by 85,000 cinema-goers since opening a week ago.
