 The Hungarian Institute in Paris

The series at the Hungarian Institute in Paris, entitled Café de la Danse, will present contemporary, modern and classic Hungarian dance ensembles in the atrium of the Hungarian Institute building. The division between the stage and the audience will disappear and visitors will surround the dancers.

Chance Operation is a tribute to John Cage and his romantic and creative partner Merce Cunningham who worked out a unique dance concept in the 1950s. Improvisation plays a central role in the performance, with everyone, including the audience, influencing the progress of the piece.

A delegation preparing the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture programme was met by representatives of the French culture ministry this week. The Hungarian delegation was headed by international affairs state secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Ferenc Csák and its members included art historian Krisztina Passuth, the art historian and former culture minister Zoltán Rockenbauer, and director of the Janus Pannonius Museum of Pécs József Sárkány. The French Ministry of Communication and Culture and the French Museums' Directorate promised the Hungarian delegation their continued support of the Pécs2010 programme.

One of the highlights of the Pécs2010 programme will be an exhibition entitled Eight, involving important French institutions such as the Pompidou Centre, the Petit Palais and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.
