András Rónai was among eight finalists picked from several hundred contestants. The top prize went to a Brazilian couple.
Rónai, who recently returned from several months in St Petersburg on scholarship, performed variations from Giselle and The Nutcracker.
Lea Földi, also a student at the academy, competed at the competition too.
Another student at the academy, Vanessza Csonka, placed second at the same competition a year earlier.
