Kántor was picked on Saturday during a general meeting of the academy that coincided with the presentation of the European Film Awards in Berlin.
The producer is one of two board members representing the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
Kántor was earlier an EFA board member too. His current mandate is for two years.
The Hungarian director István Szabó is an honourary member of the EFA board.
