Hungarian opera singer Gyorgy Melis dies

During his 60 years in the opera house, Gyorgy Melis appeared over 2,000 times on the stage in 68 roles, including Falstaff, Gianni Schicchi, Don Giovanni, Tiborc in Ferenc Erkel's "Bank Ban", and the title roles in Bela Bartok's "The Bluebeard's Castle" and Zoltan Kodaly's "Janos Hary".

   
Melis toured extensively all over Europe and in the overseas, scoring his greatest successes as Don Giovanni.
