The project, by Bálint Bachmann of the Pécs University of Sciences and Balázs Markó, who teaches at the Szent István University in Gödöllő, was picked from twelve submissions for the Hungarian pavilion at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale.
?The model is an extended architectural thought from the plane into the space. The model building plays a particularly important role in the education of the architecture, therefore we wish to present models prepared by students in the interior spaces of the pavilion,? Bachmann and Markó said in their submission.
?Building a model is the symbol of architectural complexity, in which the practicality of the realisation meets the intellectual content of the architecture. According to our interpretation the pavilion of exhibition itself is also a model of a real size scale,? they explained.

Bálint said the models were picked on the basis of their artistic merit.
?We didn?t expect models from students about to graduate, rather from those in the freshman and sophomore years, who don?t yet see things so entirely as architects,? he said.
All of the models in Spacemaker are white and none are bigger than 21X21X21cm.
The exhibition aims to be ?plain but elegantly cool?, according to its facebook page.

Deputy State Secretary for Culture Judit Hammerstein said Hungary?s pavilion in Venice?s Giardini Park designed by Géza Maróti had provided a ?virtual community? for Hungarian artists and architects for the past hundred years. The exhibition?s curators took into account this historical heritage and put the model, a basic element of education and architecture, at the centre of the show, she added.
Hammerstein noted that David Chipperfield, the chief curator of the biennale, chose forging ties between the present and future generations of architects as one of the event?s main themes.

The project is supported with 40 million forints from the state of Hungary?s National Cultural Fund and 5 million forints from the Hungarian Electricity Works, said government commissioner in charge of the Hungarian pavilion Gábor Gulyás.
He said Spacemaker involved more participants than any other exhibition at the Hungarian pavilion.
The 13th Venice Architecture Biennale will take place between August 29 and November 25.
Hammerstein revealed that an international triennial for architecture students was planned in Hungary, to be hosted by the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs.
