The exhibition shows bridges spanning the Danube in Budapest as well in other European cities.

The show was supported by the Budapest Municipal Council and the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Brussels.

Budapest deputy mayor Tamás Szentes and head of the European Parliament?s Hungarian people?s party group András Gyürk delivered speeches at the exhibition opening, which was also attended by European Union commissioner László Andor.

Gyürk said some of the photos were historic documents showing the aftermath of WWII in Budapest. He quoted Hungarian poet Attila József and emphasised the common fates of people living along the river Danube for many centuries. He said it was the responsibility of all public personalities to create bridges that link people and promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
