Gárdi won the prize for an image of an Afghan man holding a wounded boy in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley taken in October 2007.
The same photo won Gárdi a 1st prize in the General News category in this year's World Press Photo competition.
The photograph is on display with the other Px3 award winners at Paris's Acte2 gallery.
The jury for Px3 prize inlcuded Time photography editor Alice Gabriner, Magnum director Julien Frydman and Washington National Library photography collection director Carol Johnson.
