The team, who form Építész Stúdió, transformed a home built hundreds of years ago in Hungary?s famous Tokaj winegrowing region into the winery.
?In the historical center of the small Tokaj village, on a plot directly adjacent to a 15th century church, our task entailed designing a winery that will produce quality Tokaj wines,? the architects said of the project.
?The basic concept underlying the building?s design was to build a new winery by making use of all valuable elements of the greatly remodeled, original stone building. As a result the integration of old and new, the original elements, like the laid stone wall, are now displayed within the building.?
The Füleky Cellars project was earlier awarded a prize by the Hungarian Chamber of Architects.
A winery in the Hungarian winegrowing region of Badacsony was an industrial category winner in ArchDaily?s ?Building of the Year 2010? contest. The Laposa Cellars was designed by Peter Kis.
