Haris will sing the title role in Roland Baumgartner?s opera Maria Theresa at the premiere in Bratislava and during the finals in Szeged.
Haris was among nine finalists, including three from France, and one each from Romania, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain.
One more finalist must still be picked.
The finalists were chosen from 27 young singers from 13 countries who performed in Szeged on Sunday. Eight of them arrived from France and five were Hungarians. Others came from the United States, Italy, Slovakia, Russia, Belgium, Britain, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Romania and Spain.
The finalists made it through three rounds, performing an aria in the presence of directors and representatives of the participating opera houses, then participating in workshops, where directors worked with the singers shortlisted in the first round for a selected production. Finally, ?extra workshops? followed where directors got to work with any of the competing singers.
The contest, in its fifth year, gauges performers? acting skills as well as their singing talents.
The participating companies are the Szeged National Theatre, which will perform Umberto Giordano?s André Chénier, directed by Géza Bodolay; the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad with Aleksandra Vrebalov?s opera about Einstein?s first wife Milev directed by Ozren Prohic; the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava with Ladislav Adamik?s staging of Roland Baumgartner?s opera Maria Theresa; the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Plzen with Viktorie Cermáková?s staging of Philip Glass?s In the Penal Colony; and William Mayer?s Death in the Family directed by Róbert Alföldi in New York.
The finals will be held at the Szeged National Theatre on October 6-15
