The opera is bringing the production to Oman?s capital, Muscat, as the result of an earlier meeting between Csaba Káel, who directed the original production in 2002, and the pianist Ahmed Abou-zahra, an advisor to the Royal Opera House Muscat. Káel, who is now director of Budapest?s Palace of Arts (MUPA), discussed the artistic cooperation with Abou-zahra, who studied piano at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, at an international conference.

The Hungarian State Opera will bring 26 singers and 42 members of its orchestra to Oman for the production. The set, designed by Attila Csikós for the 2002 production, has already been shipped.

Elena Mosuc will sing the role of Konstanze, Rita Rácz will sing Blonde, Kurt Rydl will be Ozmin, Rainer Trost Belmonte, Franz Tscherni Selim and Péter Balczó Pedrillo.

Both of the performances are sold out.

Government commissioner Szilveszter Ókovács said that he plans to reintroduce The Abduction from the Seraglio in the repertoire in Budapest next spring.
