Tomay, 26, was awarded a EUR 10,000 prize for her design of a snack bowl set from Zepter International, which sells and distributes exclusive high-quality consumer goods around the world. The prize was presented at a ceremony in Zepter?s flagship store in Paris. Attending the ceremony were the company?s founder Madlena Zepter, of Serbian origin, and the Czech architect-cum-designer Borek Sipek, who chaired the jury.

Tomay?s snack bowl set will be put on display at the store with other finalists? submissions.

Tomay, 26, created her design by slicing up a traditional white porcelain bowl, then inserting glass plates between the parts and putting the bowl back together to create an unusually shaped holder with several compartments. The result retains the original function of the bowl, but gives it new aesthetic value.

The Artzept Foundation announced the international design award for the third time this year. The international jury met in Milan in November and chose the best of more than 100 submissions by 41 designers. There were ten Hungarian applicants, mostly from students studying at the University of Western Hungary and Budapest?s Moholy-Nagy Art School. Applications arrived from all over Europe, as well as from as far away Iran and Australia.

The second prize, which carries a EUR 4,000 purse, went to Remigijlis Sederevicius from Lithuania. The third prize, together with a EUR 3,000 purse, was shared by an Italian design group and Jelena Miletic from Serbia.
