The play was awarded the main prize at the sixth Annual Pécs National Theatre Convention (POSZT) in June. It has also been performed in Brussels and Switzerland, and it will feature in programmes in Seville and then Transylvania after the performances conclude in Germany.
The award-winning Béla Pintér and Company was set up by Béla Pintér eight years ago. But it made a name for itself with the production ?Peasant Opera?, which has been performed more than 150 times since it premiered in 2003. In addition to Hungary, ?Peasant Opera? has been performed in Cardiff, Stuttgart and Moscow.
The company?s latest production, ?Korcula?, about a Hungarian family vacationing on the Croatian coast, will officially premiere on October 1, said actress Éva Enyedi, a member of the company. An earlier version of the play, one written for 13 actors, has already been show at Budapest?s Academy of Theatre and Film and at a theatre festival in Zagreb. The premiere will be the first of two this season, with the second on the bill for February Enyedi said.
Béla Pintér and Company is based in the Szkéné Theatre at the Budapest Technical University. The company puts on 12-15 performances a month.
