English

The Nicole Bagarry-Karátson translation award of the Friendly Society of the Hungarian Institute in Paris was established to acknowledge the best translation from Hungarian into French by a French translator each year. The award was founded by Endre Karátson in memory of his wife, the acclaimed translator Nicole Bagarry-Karátson (1938-2000), and to promote the translation of Hungarian literature into French. The award comes with a purse of EUR 2,000.

Applications for the award can be submitted by those who prepare original or re-translations of literary texts, including prose, poetry or plays, which are yet to be published or have been published within the preceding 12 months. Translations of essays and sociological works are not accepted. The applications are evaluated by a jury of translators and university lecturers.
