The jury for the award has commended Spiró for his translations of plays by Gombrowicz and Wyspianski, and of poetry by Nobel Prize winner Czeslaw Milosz.
The ZAIKS award has been presented since 1966 to outstanding translators of Polish literature into other languages as well as to translators of foreign literature into Polish.
The award?s Polish recipient this year is Tadeusz Olszanski, who translated the Hungarian author Ferenc Molnár?s Pál Street Boys, a classic tale of growing up in Budapest. Molnár?s book has been compulsory reading in Polish schools for decades.
The Hungarian Institute in Warsaw institute will host a talk entitled ?The Art of Translation? where both award winners will speak following the ceremony, said the institute?s director István Gordon.
