On Thursday, The Hungarian-born Austrian journalist Paul Lendvai talked with the Hungarian writer Iván Sándor about his book Követés, published in German under the title Spurensuche. In the book, Sándor ties a personal story with that of the real-life Karl Lutz, a Swiss diplomat who saved the lives of thousands of Hungarian Jews in 1944 and 1945. The talk was joined by Agnes Hirschi, Lutz's foster child.

Also on Thursday, György Buda presented the new German translation of Kriszta Bódis's book Acrobat.

Other Hungarian writers at the fair are Ottó Tolnai, who lives in the Vojvodina region of Serbia; Noémi Szécsi, who won the new European Union Prize for Literature for her book Communist Monte Cristo this year; and László Márton, whose book Minerva's Hiding Place was recently translated into German.

Buch Wien is being held for the second time and has been moved from the city hall to a fair and events centre. Visitor numbers are expected to double over last year's 21,000.

Almost 230 exhibitors are showing at Buch Wien 2009.
