Hungarians Schiff, Fischer Receive Grammy Nominations

Schiff and has been nominated in the Best Instrumental Soloist Performance for his recording of Beethoven?s ?Piano Sonatas Vol. II.? Fischer has been nominated in the Best Orchestral Performance category for Mahler?s ?Symphony No. 6 in A Minor? performed by the Budapest Festival Orchestra.

Schiff, who received news of his Grammy nomination in Philadelphia, said he was very pleased and considered it a great honour. He noted that the Budapest Festival Orchestra had received numerous European awards, but the Grammy would mark ?a continental move?.

The 2006 Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on February 11, 2007.

Other artists competing for the 2006 Grammy Awards include Mary J. Blige and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Blige has been nominated in eight categories, including Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Album. Unexpectedly, Blige has not been nominated for the Album Of The Year category.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated in the categories Album Of The Year, Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package and Best Short Form Music Video.

Artists with nominations in at least five categories are the Dixie Chicks, James Blunt, John Mayer and the Black Eyed Peas.
