The agreement, first signed in 1994, is reviewed every three years. It aims to promote joint projects by partner institutions in Hungary and Croatia and further develop a common European culture. It also guarantees the rights of ethnic Hungarians living in Croatia and ethnic Croatians living in Hungary, protecting their cultural and historic heritage and supporting creative activities.

New elements in the agreement include cooperation in film and audiovisual projects, an exchange of exhibitions of contemporary art, industrial design and photography, and the establishment of ties between the Hungarian National Digital Archives and partner institutions in Croatia that will make the cultural heritage of more than 800 years of cohabitation available in the Europeana digital database.

After the agreement was signed, Szőcs and Obuljen opened the exhibition Croatian Intangible Cultural Heritage on UNESCO Lists at Budapest?s Museum of Ethnography.
