Aliza Bin-Noun, Israel's ambassador to Budapest, and senior culture ministry official Katalin Bogyay signed the agreement on supporting initiatives which forge ties between Hungarian and Israeli cultural institutions, artists and civil groups.

The ambassador praised the openness and co-operation shown by the culture ministry in forming the deal, which, she said, would make it easier for Israeli artists and performers to come to Hungary.

She noted that the countries would celebrate 20 years of the renewal of diplomatic relations next year.

Bogyay noted that Hungary and Isreal would make joint efforts to receive support from the European Union to set up a Jewish memorial museum in Pecs, S Hungary.

The two states will also take part in several UNESCO projects under the agreement, she added.

Bogyay also noted that Hungary will be a guest of honour at Jeruselem's book festival in February.
