(MTI) - Hungarian celebrations will be coordinated with events from Paris to Istanbul marking the anniversary, Rita Rubovszky, the managing director of Hungarofest said.
Geza Szocs, the cultural state secretary, said the Liszt celebrations would be a priority item in the government's cultural agenda. He said the Hungarian committee of UNESCO had proposed that Liszt should be designated as the world's most significant personality to be celebrated next year, and related events should get financing accordingly.
Zoltan Kocsis, artistic director of the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Liszt year's ambassador, noted that Liszt could be seen both as the star virtuosic pianist craved for on the world stage and an inward-looking composer who had a big influence on the major late 19th and 20th century composers, from Richard Strauss to Bartok.
