Under the agreement, several projects involving Spain's cultural institutions in Hungary will be launched, and new dual-language secondary school courses will be introduced.

"Various exchange programmes in education and culture will continue and stronger links will be established between important educational and cultural institutions, organisations and festivals in the two countries," Hungary's Ministry of Education and Culture said in a statement. Several student exchange programmes have started up over the past several years and two new dual-language secondary school courses were launched, the ministry added.

The number of Hungarians learning Spanish has been steadily rising, Spanish cultural events have drawn big crowds, and the Cervantes Institute has attracted an increasing number of visitors since it opened in 2004.

"The...cooperation between the two countries is well demonstrated by the frequent visits of high-ranking officials to each others' countries," the ministry said.

King Juan Carlos I visited Hungary in May.

Spain has cooperated with Hungary for 30 years, and links between the two countries have grown stronger since Hungary joined the EU in 2004.
