The ministry is renting a 180-square-metre space at Tüköry utca 5, in Budapest?s District V, for the gallery. Already, HUF 7.7 million has been allocated to refurbish the space, and another HUF 15 million for equipment and operating expenses for the gallery?s first year. Although there are six significant collections of Roma art in Hungary, at the Museum of Ethnography, the Hungarian Education Institute, the Romano Kher and the Hungarian National Gallery, all in Budapest, as well as at the the Kecskemét Museum of Na?ve Art and the Nógrád County Historical Museum, the gallery will be the first devoted specifically to the promotion of contemporary Roma art.

In addition to providing a space to show Roma art, the gallery will publish a quarterly programme and exhibition catalogues, set up a web site and open a gallery shop.

The gallery will be run by two professionals in the art field, a manager and an assistant, and its activities will be overseen by a four-member board. The gallery will operate under the auspices of the Hungarian Education Institute.
