Laying the foundation stone last Thursday, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said the centre would bring India's diverse culture closer to Hungarians and further strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
The 832-square-metre facility will feature a library, offices and an auditorium for 165 people.
India has opened similar centres in London, Berlin, Moscow, Johannesburg, Cairo and other cities.
Sharma expressed pleasure over the Budapest-based Central European University holding a conference on Mahatma Gandhi in September, and the Budapest Lorand Eotvos University hosting an international conference on India next March.
