Well thought-out processes and precisely assessed demands can be traced in the works of the new design graduates. This type of communication works between individuals and systems, spaces and lifestyles, products and consumers. Nearly 30 graduates offer their diverse design solutions for the contemporary environment, their plans and prototypes, such as hotel room furnishings and miniature study rooms for schoolchildren. They have the ability to offer something new, whether by means of small ideas or grand-scale inventions. While paying attention to traditions, they adapt to the demands of modern city life, but instead of creating utopias, they approach the task at a higher level.
They are a talented and demanding bunch, with useful ideas and logical solutions. They take different approaches, but each reflects a complex view that takes into consideration not only the usability of the object but also a responsibility for the base materials and their afterlife. For instance, Máté Koroknai's design for a vacuum cleaner in the shape of an elephant is very different from Attila Kertész's garden furniture set, but they speak the same language by seeking a balance between possibility and reality. This way of thinking is also reflected in Viktória Volosin's design for a translation machine that uses many great ideas to translate speech into sign language for the deaf. Social sensitivity is clearly reflected in her work but it is also an essential element in many other works on display here.
Mobility, flexibility, inventiveness and freedom in space are the values for this generation of designers and this is well demonstrated in their approach to creating objects. Orsolya Gyenes has designed a special rucksack that can be opened up like a book and Benedek Agg created a family home that can be assembled from modules. The most complex object, by Irma Földényi, transforms wind along motorway barriers into electricity.
