AFS Hungary Director Anett Miklos said the service had selected the European Day of Languages as the Intercultural Dialogue Day. On this day AFS organises a variety of events in 500 European cities to popularise intercultural studies, cultural dialogue, and exchange programmes.

Since Hungary joined AFS in 1990, nearly 1,200 foreign secondary students have spent a school-year in Hungary and over 1,200 Hungarians have studied in 40 different countries. The exchange programmes are organised by 600 volunteers, nearly 3,000 families and over 2540 secondary schools in Hungary, the director said.

Under AFS's auspices, Hungary has so far received youth from 15 countries, including China, Germany, Japan, Thailand and the United States, she said.
