Miklya Zsolt: Történetek a Pirosoviból ( Stories from the Little Red Nursery)
Illustrated by Krisztina Kállai Nagy
Harmat Publishers, Budapest, 2004
56 p., fully illustrated
This is a series of nine stories, between reality and fantasy, about the adventures of a nursery-school boy. One morning, walking to nursery school, Atilka and his sister, Eszterko, bump into a real lion cub that they take with them. Miss Judy, who nearly hits the roof, tries to get help from the police and the village-council. Henrike, the talking lion, soon becomes a well-established member of the nursery. Atilka and his friends manage to cure the sick lion and they experience numerous adventures with her.
One day a circus arrives in the village. After some pleading, Dad lets the children go to see the enchanting performance where they can see Henrik and Henrietta, the lion couple. The next day they look for Henrike in vain. Henrike has gone home, as her real home is the circus. ?Henrik, Henrietta, Henrike, that?s how the family is complete? ? explains Mystery Boy, and Atilka frowns as he tries to imagine what would happen to him without his Mum and Dad. As we say goodbye to them, they are still playing on the rug in the children's room.
The book was awarded Children?s Book of the Year by IBBY, Hungary for the illustrations in 2005.
