In the framework of the Journey to Jewish Heritage in Hungary project, the students documented Jewish heritage in the Hungarian cities of Debrecen, Nagykálló, Nyíregyháza and Mád, said project leader Daphna Yisrael. The subject of their work included synagogues, cemeteries, buildings, prayer books and other cultural objects. The students made interviews with the locals and recorded epitaphs from tombstones.
Eszter Lányi, Hungary's cultural attaché in Jerusalem, said at the opening of the exhibition that the students had started building a bridge with their work that would connect with future generations.

The materials collected by the students will be catalogued in an internet database, then given to the Hungarian Museum in Cfát.
Similar research trips have been made to Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey and Belarus as part of the Journey to Jewish Heritage programme. Next year a trip will be organised to Ukraine.
