Iván Fischer to Conduct Cleveland Orchestra

English

Fischer will conduct Dohnányi's Symphonic Minutes along with Dvorák's Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 8. Hilary Hahn, who made her Budapest debut at the Palace of Arts in August 2006, will be the soloist.

The concerts will take place at Severance Hall, the Cleveland Orchestra's recently refurbished home.

The Cleveland Orchestra is quite familiar with Hungarian batons. Another Hungarian, George Szell, was the orchestra's musical director in the 50s and 60s. And in the 80s and 90s, Christoph von Dohnányi, a German with Hungarian roots, led the orchestra.

Fischer was recently appointed principal guest conductor of Washington's National Symphony Orchestra for a three-season tenure. He will conduct the orchestra in an all-Mendelsohn programme for three concerts on February 8-10.

Minister of Education and Culture István Hiller recently appointed Fischer a Global Ambassador of Culture.
